2019 Leelanau County Building Permits
In 2017 we saw the largest total amount of Leelanau County building permits issued since 2007 with 739 building permits issued throughout all of Leelanau County. In 2018 the number decreased slightly to 713 total permits issued and fell drastically to 551 permits in 2019. The total dollar value of permits issued increased slightly from $64.18 Million in 2017 to $65.95 Million in 2018, and settled slightly at $64.78 Million in 2019. It seems that local builders are starting to take on fewer projects, although much larger projects such as new construction instead of small remodels.

If you are 5’6” or shorter and stood at the water’s edge of Lake Michigan in 2013 and then stood in the exact same spot this week, your entire head would now be completely underwater. Water levels are now +66” above the record low levels of 2013.
The United States Army Corps of Engineers collects and publishes current / past Lake Michigan water level data which is very important to many property owners in Leelanau County & Grand Traverse County who own real estate on Lake Michigan or Grand Traverse Bay. Their last reading took place on January 17, 2020.
